Abstract
Purpose: To compare with the accommodative responses and response AC/A ratio between emmetropic and myopic children, the slope of accommodative stimulus-response and the point of the maximum accommodative error were analyzed. Methods: Fifty-eight children aged from 11 to 13 years (mean: 12.17¡¾0.70yr) were recruited, of whom 28 were emmetropes and 30 were myopes from subjective refraction. Accommodative responses were measured under the binocular viewing condition by using an open-field infrared autorefractor (NVision-K5001, Shin-Nippon). To measure accommodative stimulation, the near targets were located in 50, 33, 25 and 20 cm in front of the eye. Result: The slope of accommodative stimulus-responses for emmetropic group was steeper than that of myopic group (emmetropes: 1.01, myopes: 0.82). The maximum accommodative error distance in both emmetropic and myopic groups was 33 cm. The response AC/A ratio of myopic group was significantly higher than that of emmetropic group (t = 4.54, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Accommodative responses were lower and the results of AC/A ratio were higher in myopic children group compared with emmetropic children. According to the result, it is associated with myopia and accommodation and it is recommended for myopia to take the accommodative response test for the prescription and care of myopia.
